2009/2/17 Wake up and keep fightingAfter reading Simon's latest (flaring) blog entry (http://snipurl.com/c04jn), I ask myself when I have stopped reading and gradually become illiterate. You know I used to be as diligent (and self-dramatizing, lol) as he is. Well, I guess now I have spent too much time on sleeping as well as facebook/xiaonei/youtube/tudou (and now twitter!). "I can sleep when I die," an LA journalist told me this when she knew that I often slept more than 14 hours a day. Ahh..now I can imagine I am wide awake on my soft-as-a-marshmallow cloud bed in heaven and have to do a lot of reading to make up the time I have wasted when I was alive. Not fun. I'd better get up earlier from tomorrow.
To have a better idea of how my friends are progressing in their lives (for the use of self encouragement), I get back in touch with my college roomates. Di is still in HK, a new job at a law firm; Rebecca is having a great time in Beijing with her beloved boyfriend; Sindy is in Tsukuba, celebrating her kawaii Japanese lifestyle; and Qiushui is in Sydney, planning her immigration with ease. What about me? These days trying to stay in the United States (legally) seems to be more difficult than dealing with the arrogant old-fashioned Brits. The economy goes so bleak that everyone is worring about their job security. Can't blame the protectionism at this point. Nonethelss, it is not a good taste in the mouth to worry about being kicked out of the country every day. This reminds me of the trip to the Constitution Museum at Philadelphia. To showcase the progress of American democracy, interactive screens can tell you in a chronical order if you can vote in different states. So I tried it and here is the result.
Haha, it was not something that can surprise you but it was very interesting to see the bloody red "denied" poped up on the screen. It's similar to the darn OPT thing--if you can't get employed in the industry relevant to your academic degree in 90 days--then here you are, a bloody "denied" ready for you. Get packed and get lost.
Don't get me wrong. I love to go back to China. I just hate to feel like a loser on a foreign land. Keep fighting.
